Vintage Love

I have a little stash if vintage dolls and toys which are either remnants of my childhood in the 1980's (that so ages me!) or I've bought since in a moment of nostalgia and thought I would start sharing pics of my collection here.

This girl isn't my actual childhood doll but I bought her a little while back as, without a doubt, she was one of my favourite dolls - Blueberry Muffin from Strawberry Shortcake.

My only sadness comes from the fact that this Blueberry Muffin doesn't have her adorable little shoes, so I'm always scouring eBay for a pair! Apart from that there is nothing that I don't love about this doll - her lovely stripy tights... Her little face of cuteness...

And don't even get me started on her sidekick Cheesecake...

I would love to get an actual Strawberry Shortcake to keep her company.

For all the new toys and dolls I buy, nothing is ever as precious as my vintage collections xx

Doll Review - La Dee Da Juicy Crush Dee

I stepped into the world of a new doll this week (because the last thing in the world I need is a new collection, obviously) and purchased a La Dee Da.

For some reason the doll that caught my eye was the Juicy Crush Dee doll - apparently all it takes to draw me in is a watermelon themed dress!

The La Dee Da dolls do have a lovely design (speaking as a fan of dolls with giant heads and beautiful large eyes) but I was disappointed by the lack of pose-ability. She does have joints at her knees (which is an improvement on other dolls I've bought recently) but I think I might have been a bit spoilt by Monster High, and find myself looking for more posing fun these days.

I love the design of the dress - the watermelon theme is especially cute. Her headband is also a nice touch. One thing I hadn't expected was just how tiny her feet are, but her shoes are sweet!

And yep, that's a Monster High stand as this girl doesn't come with one.

I do love her eyes - they're so pretty, and her watermelon coloured hair is a lot of fun. I actually think these dolls have really nice faces and I love this picture, but somehow their bodies let them down - they're just a bit bland.

I'm not sure I'm hooked on La-Dee-Da dolls after this purchase but I do really like this doll - she's bright and happy and the fruit theme is very cute (I'd quite like a much larger version of that dress).

Friday Favourites - Blythe Dresses

It's Friday! And that means I'm in the mood for some clothes shopping....for my Blythe! My Save the Animals is in desperate need for a lovely dress or two and here are a few of my current favourites beauties on Etsy:

1. Multi-Colour Tartan prettiness from LoveBlytheDoll

2. Gorgeous corduroy dress from SHAN

3. Eep! Bunting themed dress - beautiful (and inspires me with a little Blythe related crafting project) from Devout Dolls

4. I will never tire of Matryoshka related items <3  from Miss Blythe 2012

5. Oh my gosh - ladybird cuteness! From TooMeBlythe

If you have any favourite sellers of Blythe dresses then I'd love to hear about them - just for window shopping purposes you understand!

Have a beautiful and doll filled weekend!

Random Doll Wednesday

Hey doll fans!

I thought I'd use Wednesdays to share pics of any random dolls from my collection (kinda like random Toy Tuesday but with dolls...crazy huh?).

Today it is the turn of my C.A Cupid because I've only just spent any time looking at the pictures I've taken of her and I'm sort of loving them. I was late to the game with Cupid and ended up getting her on the second release. I wasn't sure about her from some of the photos I'd seen on-line (especially her mouth) but totally love her now.

I only wish I'd managed to get hold of the first release with the hair plait being more of a heart than a random upside tear drop. My favourite parts of Cupid are the patterns on her legs, her skirt, shoes and that awesome arrow ring.

Oh...and the crazy pink of her hair...how could I forget that?

More random doll posts to come as I gradually sort through my crazy stash of pics.

Random Toy Tuesday

Hello lovelies! Today I have the answer to a complex question - What's cuter than a Sylvanian Families toy?

Uh, a Sylvanian Families toy in a fuzzy bunny suit of course!

See?

I'd seen Sylvanian Families in animal costumes on Japanese sites before but had never had the pleasue of seeing one up close until I stumbled upon this little treasure in TK Maxx. He also came with a friend...

Gah! Too much cuteness!

I should probably have saved these pics for Easter, but frankly couldn't wait to post them.

Doll News - Barbie Catwoman

The awesome Paul over at Idle Hands (seriously one of the best blogs for toy news...especially in the lead up to SDCC excitement) has photos of the new Catwoman Barbie, available to purchase at SDCC.

Picture from idlehands1.blogspot.co.uk
Follow this link for more images of her feline gorgeousness. I'm a huge fan of Catwoman and adore her Julie Newmar style.

Doll News - Neo Blythe Hi!Ho! Marine

The design drawing for neo Blythe Hi! Ho! Marine has been released over at blythedoll.com a.nd she is full of nautical cuteness.

Image from blythedoll.com

I love her outfit and don't have a blonde girl yet so she could be going on a wishlist shortly - can't wait for actual photos. Her description is that she has a lemon yellow short bob, special light blue facing forward eyes (can't wait to see them), natural skin and a new Radiance face mould (new mould! exciting much?).

What do you think? Is she a worthy addition to your Blythe army? I'm reserving judgement until the actual photos but for now it's love.

Toy Review - Monster High 13 Wishes Twyla

A trip to my local supermarket this morning brought with it a new purchase - Twyla from the Monster High 13 Wishes Line.

I haven't seen much love for Twyla around the fan community but have to say that after the initial 'Hmm, she looks kinda different...' I've fallen in love.

Twyla is the Daughter of The Boogey Man but with a cute twist as she tries to help people by capturing their nightmares so they only have sweet dreams. See? No need to fear the Boogey-Teen, she's just a little bit misunderstood.

Here's Twyla in all her loveliness...

She comes with the standard black stand, and more on the rest of her accessories later. Read on for more pictures and information...

The First Shy Hello

So here we are...the first post on Elegantly Odd (cue fanfare). I've started this blog as a way to share my love for collecting dolls (well, mostly dolls although other random toys will likely find their way into the blog from time to time).

My love started with Sindy in the 1980's (eep! that ages me) and these days is mostly focused on Blythe, Pullip and Monster High (with the odd vintage Sindy thrown in for good measure). I also have a love for action figures, mostly those linked to a galaxy far, far away and many other random toys in-between.

I hope this place will be a way for me to track my collection/s, share exciting doll news, get to know some fellow doll-a-holics and challenge me to develop my photography skills.

Thanks for stopping by and feel free to pull up a chair and have a nose around. Cookies and hot chocolate with marshmallows are optional.
